From the notes of Maureen Thomley:
CHIEF JOHN WESLEY THOMLEY 419-20-2186
Chief Thomley was a descendant of "Semoice" and Nancy Pate, a Choctaw Princess. He was from the Wind Clan, which is the ruling clan or the Royal Clan. He was also a member of the Porch Band of Creek Indians in Atmore, Alabama, a federally recognized Creek Indian Reservation. Chief Thomley resided most of his life in Escambia County, Florida. He was appointed Chief of the Lower Muskogee Creek Tribe in February of 1973. He was a member of the local Board of the Selective Service. he also worked with the Creek people in Alabama and Georgia. He worked with Bureau of Indian Affairs in Muskogee, Oklahoma. He served for 10 years in the Community Action Program Board of Directors. He was appointed to serve on the Northwest Florida Creek Indian Council. Chief Thomley was married to Billy Ruth Bowman which is a descendant of the Joseph Stiggins family. When Chief Thomley dedicated their first Pow Wow, it was so the Creeks could re-establish the almost extinct customs and traditions of our Creek Indian ancestors. He wanted to inspire other American Indians to be proud of their birthright and keep their ancient cultures alive. Tuskie Mahaya Haco in Chief Thomley's Eulogy stated, "Chief Wesley Thomley was born a Creek, lived as a Creel and died as a Creek." Chief Thomley made a statement which he believed and lived, "Live each day to it's fullest and tomorrow will be filled with the brightness of Love, Peace, Harmony and Understanding. For every today is the dream of yesterday and every tomorrow the hope of today."
THIS POW WOW IS BEING DEDICATED TO THE MEMORY OF CHIEF JOHN WESLEY THOMLEY. The
