Notes for TAFT OTIS THOMLEY from Thomley Family Tree, Compiled by his daughter, Maureen Barnes (Elsie Maureen Thomley)
Taft was a school bus driver in high school. He joined the Navy but was discharged because he had a vision problem that could not be fixed. He worked in Civil Service at Fort Rucker, Alabama, in Logistics. He lived most of his life in Dothan, Alabama, but moved to Birmingham to be near some of his children in the late 1990's. I don't know how I would have made it to grow up without him. He spoiled me terribly. He made time on Friday night to make sure I could get to the ball games and back home again. (Every week for a very long time.) He was rarely free of me when I was in school (and he was a single guy too). After he married and had his children I was sure that the first 3 were half mine. I would take the school bus to Dothan so I could spend the night with them. They were more important to me that most anything that had come along in my world. After I married we lived near him and we spent a lot of time together until we moved away for my husband to go to college. He was a good manager, because he could balance his work, a large family, an active church life, school activities for all his children, and still be a part of our close knit family. I was so pleased when he was able to travel to Isreal to visit The Holy Land. I was really blessed. Taft is a religious man and served many years as Elder in the Church Of Christ. He has two son's who became ministers.
